At age 35, Yatseniuk boasts more experience than many of Ukraine’s presidential candidates. Along with partners, Yatseniuk launched his Yurek Ltd. legal services firm before even completing his law degree from Chernivtsi University. In the late 1990, he moved to Kyiv to work in banking. Following a stint as economy minister of Crimea, Yatseniuk in 2003 was appointed first deputy chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine. After leaving the central bank, Yatseniuk served as deputy governor of Odesa Oblast until September 2005. He next served as economy minister under former prime minister Yuriy Yekhanurov, deputy head of the presidential office in 2006 and foreign minister in 2007. He briefly served as parliament speaker after snap elections in September 2007.

Arseniy Yatseniuk is one of four members of President's Our Ukraine faction that has nominated to run against Yushchenko, demonstrating the level of division that exists with the President own party.

He is currently in third place but as the election progresses his support rating has slipped to below 9% 10 percentage points behind Yulia Tymoshenko

The nature of the winner takes all first past the post election system means that each of the our Ukraine faction nominees are competing against each other for their share of the same bone.

United they stood a chance of winning 14% not enough to win second place or survive the overall election.

Yatseniuk's problem is he is seen to be too young and inexerienced and closely aligned with Yushchenko

Yushchenko is actively trying to persuade Yatseniuk and Hrytsenko to pull out but at this stage too much has been invested in their campaigns and pressure is on for Yushchenko to be the one that taps the mat.

As long as Yushchenko and the other our Ukraine representatives remain in the race Yatseniuk will not survive the first round let alone be seen as a serious contender.
