Two weeks before first ballot to elect new President

Ukraine has less then fourteen days remaining before the first round ballot to elect a new president.

The polls have consistently placed Viktor Yanukovych in first place with Yulia Tymoshenko in second place.  Both will face off in a second round final ballot expected to be scheduled for February 7.

Coming in third is Sergei Tigipko ha sis 10 percentage points behind Yulia Tymoshenko, a gap to wide to bridge.

The election campaign  is also effected by the Christmas/New Year holiday period.  The Orthodox Christmas is on January 7 and the "old" new year on January 14.  This combined with Ukraine's cold winter makes campaigning that much harder, reducing the likely hood for any unexpected significant change in the election outcome.
