Hrytsenko is one of four members of President's Our Ukraine faction that has nominated to run against Yushchenko, demonstrating the level of division that exists with the President own party.

Hrtsenko is a capable and rational candidate in in other circumstances would have made a reasonable choice to be appointed head of state.

The nature of the winner takes all first past the post election system means that each of the our Ukraine faction nominees are competing against each other for their share of the same bone.

United they stood a chance of winning 14% not enough to win second place or survive the overall election.

Hrytsenko support rating 2 to 3.5% is expected to equal Yushchenko's
